In the last ball of the 114th over of the first innings, Sri Lanka pacer Vishwa Fernando bowled a full-length delivery and Jayant tried to outside edge the ball, and Thirimanne grabbed a good low catch at first slip.

Jayant was the first Indian player to get dismissed under the score of 25 in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka as he was able to score only 2 runs off 18 balls. After he got out Jadeja gave a death glare to him.
